Stud bolts & threaded rods
Special alloy fasteners

Stud bolts are headless fasteners threaded along their full length or at both ends. Used with compatible nuts and, where specified, washers, they clamp flanges, valve bonnets and equipment covers together.

Product and thread standards
Check the product geometry, thread form and flange assembly requirements against your drawing.
Dimensions · metricDIN 976-1Metric fully threaded studs+
Defines the metric fully threaded stud form. Specify the nominal diameter, length and thread pitch in your order.
Dimensions · inchASME B18.31.2Continuous-thread, double-end and flange bolting studs+
Use the specified stud form and its length convention when preparing the drawing and parts list.
Threads · metricASME B1.13MMetric M-profile threads+
Metric thread profile, pitch and tolerance requirements for compatible mating parts.
Threads · inchASME B1.1-2024UNC · UNF · 8UN · UNJ+
Unified inch thread series, profiles and fit classes. Include the thread designation and class with the drawing.
Flange assembly referenceASME B16.5Pipe flanges and fittings · NPS ½–24+
Includes flange bolting requirements and dimensional recommendations. Identify the flange size and pressure class.
Flange assembly referenceASME B16.47Large-diameter steel flanges · NPS 26–60+
Specify the flange series, size and pressure class to identify the connection geometry.
Thread manufacturing methods +
Rolled threads
Threads formed by displacement of material. The alloy condition, tooling and thread profile define the rolling route.
Cut threads
Threads machined into the stock, including special pitches and drawing-specific end configurations.
Special geometry & surface finish +
Tap-end engagement, reduced shanks, unequal thread lengths and special end details can be included in your drawing. Add any specified PTFE/Xylan coating or passivation requirement to the enquiry.
Studs & threaded rods: what’s the difference?
Compare the threaded form and how it connects to the assembly.
Fully threaded stud
Threaded throughout and supplied to a finished part length.
Commonly assembled with a nut at each end.
Threaded rod
Continuous thread supplied as rod for cutting to length.
For cut pieces, specify the finished length and end finish.
Double-end clamping stud
Two threaded ends with a plain shank between them.
Nuts clamp the assembly from both ends.
Tap-end stud
One end screws into a tapped component; the other takes a nut.
Specify the engagement length and fit of the tap end.
End-to-end length includes the end points. First-full-thread to first-full-thread length excludes them. Identify the required measurement on your drawing or order.
