Zirconium 702
Fasteners & Material Data
UNS R60702
What is Zirconium 702 and its applications?
Zirconium 702 (UNS R60702) is commercially pure zirconium used in corrosion-resistant chemical equipment. Its value lies in compatibility with particular process media, not in a general claim that it resists every acid.
- Chemical vessels: Wetted equipment components selected against process-specific corrosion data.
- Heat exchangers: Corrosion-resistant heat-transfer equipment and associated connections.
- Process piping: Components for chemical circuits with defined concentration, temperature and impurity limits.

Engineering Application & Selection Guide
Zirconium forms a protective oxide film that underpins its corrosion resistance. For fasteners, distinguish this surface-dependent corrosion behavior from the mechanical acceptance requirements of the finished threaded part.
- Zirconium 702 stud bolts — For wetted flange connections, state the full fluid composition, including contaminants and cleaning chemicals.
- Zirconium 702 hex bolts — Show the bearing faces and any contact with dissimilar metals on the drawing so the complete joint can be assessed.
- Zirconium 702 hex nuts — Define the mating thread, engagement length and assembly method together; a matching alloy label alone does not establish joint capacity.
Zirconium 705 adds niobium for greater strength. Select between them using the proposed material form and condition, then confirm process compatibility separately. Identify any welding or hot work in the manufacturing route so cleanliness and heat-treatment requirements can be reviewed.

Procurement and application guide
Specify the material and final condition
Verify the medium, impurities and temperature; zirconium is not suitable for every acid.
Material forms in the technical reference: Bar · Wire · Sheet · Strip · Plate · Tube · Pipe · Forgings.
Define the finished-part acceptance
Include the material or bolting specification, required final condition, dimensions and quantity. State the service medium, temperature and loading where known. Agree the required tests, inspection coverage and acceptance criteria for the finished part.
Start with the information you have
Send a drawing or share the product form and dimensions. Identify any undecided requirements for review rather than copying a typical property value into the purchase order.
