Fasteners & Material Data
UNS N08926
What is Alloy 926 and its applications?
Alloy 926 (UNS N08926) is a high-alloy austenitic stainless steel containing molybdenum and nitrogen. It is used in chloride-bearing process equipment, seawater-related systems and chemical plant.
- Seawater-related systems: Components selected for the actual chloride exposure.
- Chemical processing: Equipment handling compatible oxidizing and reducing media.
- Environmental plant: Gas-cleaning and other corrosive process systems.

Engineering Application & Selection Guide
Chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen support localized-corrosion resistance; nickel stabilizes the austenitic structure. Its resistance must be evaluated for the actual environment rather than converted into a guaranteed service life from PREN.
- Alloy 926 stud bolts — For desalination connections, specify water temperature, chlorination, crevice geometry and the final condition.
- Alloy 926 hex bolts — For chemical vessels, assess the full acid-chloride mixture and galvanic contact in the assembly.
- Alloy 926 socket head cap screws — For marine instruments, define material traceability, mechanical acceptance and access for inspection of recessed heads.
Compare 926 and 254 SMO against process-specific data and the required product condition. Neither a 6Mo family label nor PREN alone establishes reliable long-term service in warm, stagnant or chlorinated seawater.

Procurement and application guide
Specify the material and final condition
Specify solution-annealed condition and the relevant product dimensions.
Material forms in the technical reference: Rod & bar · Wire · Sheet · Strip · Plate · Discs & rings · Pipe & tube · Forgings.
Define the finished-part acceptance
Include the material or bolting specification, required final condition, dimensions and quantity. State the service medium, temperature and loading where known. Agree the required tests, inspection coverage and acceptance criteria for the finished part.
Start with the information you have
Send a drawing or share the product form and dimensions. Identify any undecided requirements for review rather than copying a typical property value into the purchase order.
