Monel 400 Stud Bolts

ASME B18.31.2ASTM B164

Monel 400 studs provide removable nut closures for marine valves, cooling-water flanges and pump covers. Full-thread studs suit through-flanges; double-end forms can remain in a tapped housing while the cover is lifted for service.

Heat Treatment

Annealed; cold worked for higher strength

Annealing restores ductility after working, while the specified amount of cold work sets higher-strength conditions without aging.

What we can make in Monel 400

Fully threaded

Two nuts clamp the flange or cover; usable thread length spans the assembled grip.

Double-end

A plain centre spans the grip, with a threaded portion at each end for the nuts.

tap endnut end

Tap-end

One end engages a tapped casing; the exposed end accepts the cover nut.

Manufacturing route

CNC machining suits samples and special end forms. Repeat lots use cut-to-length stock with rolling or cutting selected for the ordered thread and material condition.

Heat treatment & final condition

The final annealed or specified strengthened condition is linked to the lot; an aging treatment is not assumed for a solid-solution alloy.

Finished geometry

End lengths, runout and effective thread engagement are checked separately from overall length; tap ends are gauged to their own fit requirement.

Where 400 fits — and what matters

Handwheel-operated marine valve with a bolted bonnet and flanged connections in a seawater piping system.

Marine valve bonnets

Monel 400 Stud Bolts

A double-end Monel 400 stud can remain in a marine valve body while the bonnet nuts and cover are removed. This reduces repeated assembly of the body-side thread. The nickel-copper alloy suits compatible seawater exposure; the body engagement and free end length must match the bonnet and packing-access arrangement.

Connection requirements
  • Body-side thread and engagement
  • Bonnet lift and nut-end projection
  • Stud condition and bonnet load

Shipboard cooling lines

Monel 400 Stud Bolts

Full-thread Monel 400 studs provide a nut at each end of a cooling-water flange joint. They are convenient where the crew has better access to nuts than to a long bolt head during pipe removal. The stud length must include both nuts and any washers used in that particular flange stack.

Connection requirements
  • Flange thickness and gasket allowance
  • Two nut heights and washer selection
  • Cooling-water flow and stagnation

Seawater pumps

Monel 400 Stud Bolts

Monel 400 studs suit seawater-pump covers where the supplied condition meets the required closure load. Double-end studs can remain in a tapped casing while the cover is removed for impeller or seal work. Nickel-copper corrosion resistance is useful at those exposed fastening points, with stagnant water around the threads included in the assessment.

Connection requirements
  • Pump cover load
  • Full-thread or tapped-body end form
  • Required strength and corrosion exposure

Monel K-500 Stud Bolts

Monel K-500 studs suit marine bonnets and pump casings that need stronger nickel-copper bolting within an existing hole pattern. Body-mounted studs can remain in place during servicing. Cathodically protected subsea assemblies require a specific review of the K-500 condition and sustained loading.

Inconel 625 Stud Bolts

Offshore flanges and marine valve bonnets put the stud threads, nut seats and exposed shank in different pockets of chloride exposure. Inconel 625 studs bring pitting and crevice-corrosion resistance to that loaded connection. On tapped-stud bonnets, crews can remove the nuts and cover while leaving the studs installed in the valve body.

Duplex 2205 Stud Bolts

Duplex 2205 studs carry loaded process-water and brackish-water closures where strength and chloride resistance matter together. Double-end forms stay in tapped casings during cover removal, reducing repeated assembly of the housing thread. Independently dimensioned ends leave the nut accessible above the cover and washer stack.

Questions about 400 stud bolts & threaded rods

Does changing the stud alloy also change the nut selection?

The nut needs compatible internal threads, sufficient engaged height and a specified material condition. Select lubricant or surface treatment with the stud–nut pair, because assembly friction affects the preload obtained from tightening.
