UNS S31635
What is 316Ti stainless steel and its applications?
316Ti stainless steel (UNS S31635) is a titanium-stabilized, molybdenum-bearing austenitic grade. It is considered for process equipment where thermal exposure makes sensitization resistance relevant to material selection.
- Heated process systems: Piping and equipment components subject to sustained thermal exposure.
- Heat exchangers: Connections requiring review of both corrosion and metal temperature.
- Fabricated chemical equipment: Parts where the specified stabilized condition must be retained through manufacture.

Engineering Application & Selection Guide
Titanium ties up carbon as titanium carbides, limiting chromium-carbide formation when the material has the appropriate thermal treatment. Stabilization addresses sensitization; it is not a general solution to chloride pitting or stress-corrosion cracking.
- 316Ti stud bolts — For heated process joints, state the required thermal condition and design temperature with the drawing.
- 316Ti hex bolts — On dissimilar-metal supports, check thermal expansion and the temperature of the actual bolt location.
- 316Ti custom fasteners — If welding or hot working is proposed, define how the specified condition and corrosion requirements will be verified afterwards.
Compare 316L when welding is the principal concern, and 321 when reviewing stabilization without the same molybdenum-bearing chemistry. Selection requires the actual exposure and product specification; the Ti suffix does not establish an allowable fastener temperature.
