Special alloy square-head positioning bolts
A square head can engage a matching slot to restrain rotation in adjustable fixtures. Slot width, head clearance and locating-shank fit define the interface, while thread length provides the adjustment and clamping range.

Square-head positioning bolts material selection
Equipment & applications

Positioning & locating
Set stops in slotted positioning assemblies. The square head engages the slot to resist turning while the exposed nut locks the position.

Assembly fixtures
Secure adjustable fixtures through matching slots. Capturing the square head allows the nut to be tightened without holding a second tool beneath the fixture.

Assembly tooling
Locate adjustable brackets on assembly jigs. A controlled shoulder positions the bracket, while the square head restrains rotation during thread adjustment.
Square-head positioning bolts configurations & dimensions
Square head
Capture the square head in a matching slot or pocket to stop rotation while tightening from the nut side. Head width and pocket clearance determine how much turning play remains.
Locating shank
Use a machined step or shank to locate fixture plates and adjustable tooling. Specify its fit to the mating bore when repeatable position matters; thread clearance cannot provide that locating accuracy.

CNC · Locating Features
Turning establishes the locating shoulder and milling produces the square head. This route suits short runs where slot width, shoulder fit or adjustment travel changes between fixtures.
Locating Fit & Thread
The shoulder is finished to its locating tolerance independently of the thread. Thread gauges check the adjustment fit, while head width is checked against the slot that restrains rotation.
Cold Heading / Hot Forging
Small square heads in repeat quantities favour cold heading of ductile feedstock. Larger square heads and thick stepped sections favour hot-forged blanks, reducing the force needed to fill the corners before finish machining.
Heat Treatment & Position Accuracy
Ageing strengthens solution-treated Inconel 718 for loaded locating shoulders. Annealing of cold-worked Inconel 625 restores ductility. Close shoulder diameters and concentricity are verified after heating to preserve the intended positioning accuracy.
