What is Inconel 600 and its applications?
Inconel 600 (UNS N06600) is a nickel-chromium-iron alloy used in heat-treatment equipment, chemical processing and high-temperature components. Its properties vary with product form and condition.
- Heat treatment: Retorts, muffles, trays and furnace components.
- Chemical processing: Heaters, stills and compatible fluid-handling equipment.
- High-temperature components: Engine hardware and industrial thermal assemblies.

Engineering Application & Selection Guide
Inconel 600 is solid-solution strengthened and can be further strengthened by cold working rather than precipitation hardening. Its resistance to chloride stress-corrosion cracking must not be extended to every water chemistry or environmental cracking mechanism.
- Inconel 600 hex bolts — For furnace enclosures, specify the condition and assess sustained load at the actual bolt temperature.
- Inconel 600 stud bolts — For chemical flanges, state the medium, thread requirements and compatible lubrication.
- Inconel 600 socket head cap screws — For heated fixtures, identify whether cold-worked strength is required and how thermal exposure affects the selected condition.
Compare 600 and 625 against the actual corrosion and mechanical requirements. Oxidation resistance does not establish creep capacity, and a cold-worked strength value should not be transferred to an annealed hot-service part.

Specify the material and final condition
Define the atmosphere, temperature and mechanical load.
Material forms in the technical reference: Round bar · Flat bar · Wire · Plate · Sheet · Strip · Pipe & tube · Forging stock · Hexagon & sections.
Define the finished-part acceptance
Include the material or bolting specification, required final condition, dimensions and quantity. State the service medium, temperature and loading where known. Agree the required tests, inspection coverage and acceptance criteria for the finished part.
