UNS S43000
What is 430 stainless steel and its applications?
430 stainless steel (UNS S43000) is a ferritic chromium grade used in mildly corrosive environments. Common material applications include kitchen equipment, appliance components and general indoor hardware where formability and corrosion resistance are required.
- Kitchen equipment: Components exposed to suitable cleaning and service conditions.
- Appliances: Panels, fittings and associated hardware.
- Indoor assemblies: General components where the environment does not require a more corrosion-resistant grade.

Engineering Application & Selection Guide
430 has a ferritic structure and is not hardened by a quench-and-temper treatment. Its magnetic response distinguishes it from annealed austenitic grades and can be relevant to equipment requirements.
- 430 flat washers — For formed washers, specify thickness, flatness and bearing dimensions for the clamped surface.
- 430 custom fasteners — For clips or shaped retaining parts, define forming direction, radii and the required final dimensions.
- 430 hex bolts — For a drawing that calls for threaded 430 hardware, establish the actual strength requirement and manufacturing route before approval.
Consider 304 when the exposure or fabrication requirements need an austenitic alternative. Do not specify 430 as a non-magnetic material or assume a high-strength bolt class from its stainless designation. The lowest-cost alloy is useful only if the joint meets its load and corrosion requirements.

Procurement and application guide
Specify the material and final condition
Ferritic 430 is not hardened by quenching; define the formed condition.
Material forms in the technical reference: Sheet · Strip · Coil.
Define the finished-part acceptance
Include the material or bolting specification, required final condition, dimensions and quantity. State the service medium, temperature and loading where known. Agree the required tests, inspection coverage and acceptance criteria for the finished part.
Start with the information you have
Send a drawing or share the product form and dimensions. Identify any undecided requirements for review rather than copying a typical property value into the purchase order.
