UNS S66286
What is A-286 and its applications?
A-286 (UNS S66286), also known as Alloy 660, is a precipitation-hardening iron-nickel-chromium alloy. It is used in jet-engine components and high-temperature fasteners where strength, ductility and resistance to the service atmosphere must be considered together.
- Jet engines: Turbine wheels, blades, casings and afterburner parts.
- High-temperature hardware: Fasteners selected against a defined thermal and mechanical duty.
- Engine structures: Frames and associated components requiring a controlled heat-treatment condition.

Engineering Application & Selection Guide
Aging develops strengthening precipitates in an austenitic matrix. Solution treatment and aging must be tied to the specified product requirements; a raw-material grade description is not a substitute for a finished-bolting class.
- A-286 stud bolts — For Grade 660 bolting, identify the governing specification, class and size. Confirm the required properties after the complete manufacturing sequence.
- A-286 hex bolts — For exhaust-system connections, evaluate differential thermal expansion and clamp-load changes through the operating cycle.
- A-286 socket head cap screws — For confined hot assemblies, state head geometry, thread requirements and long-term relaxation criteria.
When comparing A-286 and Inconel 718 fasteners, use condition-specific creep, relaxation and allowable-stress data for the actual design temperature and life. There is no universal changeover temperature between the two alloys.

Procurement and application guide
Specify the material and final condition
For Grade 660 bolting, state the required class and size.
Material forms in the technical reference: Bar · Billet · Plate · Sheet · Strip.
Define the finished-part acceptance
Include the material or bolting specification, required final condition, dimensions and quantity. State the service medium, temperature and loading where known. Agree the required tests, inspection coverage and acceptance criteria for the finished part.
Start with the information you have
Send a drawing or share the product form and dimensions. Identify any undecided requirements for review rather than copying a typical property value into the purchase order.
