UNS N08020
What is Incoloy 020 and its applications?
Incoloy 020 (UNS N08020) is a niobium-stabilized austenitic alloy containing nickel, chromium, molybdenum and copper. It is used in chemical equipment, particularly for compatible sulfuric-acid process environments.
- Chemical processing: Tanks, heat exchangers and process piping.
- Pharmaceutical and food equipment: Components in chemically compatible process streams.
- Fluid handling: Pumps, valves, fittings and fasteners.

Engineering Application & Selection Guide
Copper contributes to sulfuric-acid resistance, while niobium helps control sensitization through carbide stabilization. Neither addition establishes immunity to intergranular corrosion or a universal safety margin over 316L.
- Incoloy 020 stud bolts — For sulfuric-acid flanges, state concentration, temperature, contaminants and operating changes.
- Incoloy 020 hex bolts — For process-equipment supports, define the condition and whether the joint contacts the process fluid.
- Incoloy 020 socket head cap screws — For dosing pumps, review housing compatibility, crevices and the proposed assembly procedure.
When comparing Incoloy 020 and Incoloy 825, review corrosion data for the actual medium, concentration and temperature. Their composition ranges overlap in important respects; no single-element ranking establishes the correct choice.
