What is 310S stainless steel and its applications?
310S stainless steel (UNS S31008) is a lower-carbon member of the heat-resistant 310 family. It is used in furnace fabrications and thermal equipment, particularly where fabrication requirements must be balanced against hot-service performance.
- Furnace fabrications: Linings, supports and related components.
- Thermal-processing equipment: Fixtures and baskets selected for the heating atmosphere.
- Hot-gas systems: Burner and duct components with defined thermal cycles.

Engineering Application & Selection Guide
310S retains the high chromium and nickel levels of the 310 family while restricting carbon. Lower carbon does not make it interchangeable with the controlled-carbon 310H grade for creep-dependent service.
- 310S hex bolts — For removable hot covers, include tightening temperature and shutdown conditions in the connection review.
- 310S stud bolts — For a joint carrying load throughout a furnace cycle, assess time at temperature and retained clamp load.
- 310S flat washers — Define the bearing area, mating surface and thermal movement; do not assign a spring function to a plain washer.
Use the 310 grade-selection guide to check the requested suffix and certification. Where an oxidation-resistant fabrication needs high-strength bolting, the best fastener material may differ from the sheet or plate grade.

Procurement and application guide
Specify the material and final condition
State the atmosphere and load; oxidation resistance is not an allowable stress.

Define the finished-part acceptance
Include the material or bolting specification, required final condition, dimensions and quantity. State the service medium, temperature and loading where known. Agree the required tests, inspection coverage and acceptance criteria for the finished part.
Start with the information you have
Send a drawing or share the product form and dimensions. Identify any undecided requirements for review rather than copying a typical property value into the purchase order.
