What is Nimonic 80A and its applications?

Nimonic 80A (UNS N07080) is a wrought, age-hardenable nickel-chromium alloy. It is used for turbine components, bolts, engine exhaust valves and other hot-service parts.

  • Gas turbines: Blades, rings, discs and bolts.
  • Engine exhaust systems: Valve and related thermal components.
  • Industrial thermal equipment: Tube supports and tooling components.

Engineering Application & Selection Guide

Titanium and aluminum enable precipitation strengthening during aging. The heat-treatment sequence depends on product requirements; a producer material-temperature description does not define a finished bolt allowable.

Compare 80A and 718 using condition-specific creep, relaxation and fatigue evidence. The melting route, processing condition and finished-part specification can be as important as nominal composition.

Procurement and application guide

Specify the material and final condition

Confirm the aging condition and required strength.

Material forms in the technical reference: Round bar · Flat bar · Wire · Sheet · Plate · Forging stock · Hexagon & sections · Pipe & tube.

Define the finished-part acceptance

Include the material or bolting specification, required final condition, dimensions and quantity. State the service medium, temperature and loading where known. Agree the required tests, inspection coverage and acceptance criteria for the finished part.

Start with the information you have

Send a drawing or share the product form and dimensions. Identify any undecided requirements for review rather than copying a typical property value into the purchase order.
