Titanium Grade 5 Double-end studs

ASME B18.31.2ASTM B348

A Titanium Grade 5 double-end stud leaves the installed end in the equipment body while the service nut is removed. Its higher strength than commercially pure titanium at low density must cover the trapped body-end interface as well as the exposed end.

Heat Treatment

Annealed

Annealing reduces working stresses and restores ductility, with atmosphere and surface control limiting contamination during heating.

What we can make in Titanium Grade 5

Clamping stud: two threaded ends with a plain shank

Clamping stud

Use for through-bolted covers and housings with access to both nuts. The plain grip spans the joint; independently sized threaded ends accommodate unequal nut-side clearances.

Tap-end stud: unequal threaded ends

Tap-end stud

Use on valve bonnets and machine housings opened repeatedly for maintenance. The insertion end remains in the body while the outer nut is removed, reducing repeated wear of the housing thread.

Manufacturing route

CNC machining suits samples and special end forms. Repeat lots use cut-to-length stock with rolling or cutting selected for the ordered thread and material condition.

Heat treatment & final condition

Forming and thermal processing require contamination control. The final surface is cleaned before dimensional and material acceptance.

Finished geometry

End lengths, runout and effective thread engagement are checked separately from overall length; tap ends are gauged to their own fit requirement.

Where Titanium Grade 5 fits — and what matters

Industrial Machinery & Automation

Machine housings and service covers

Titanium Grade 5 double-end studs connect machine housings and service covers through a threaded body end and an accessible nut end. The plain shank spans the cover grip. Alignment, operating cycles and replacement access define the working interface.

Pumps, Valves & OEM

Pump casings and valve bonnets

Titanium Grade 5 double-end studs connect pump casings and valve bonnets through a threaded body end and an accessible nut end. The plain shank spans the cover grip. Repeated maintenance makes fit, engagement and access part of the component specification.

Automotive & EV Manufacturing Equipment

Test-equipment housings

Titanium Grade 5 double-end studs connect test-equipment housings through a threaded body end and an accessible nut end. The plain shank spans the cover grip. Repeated tooling changes require consistent seating and repeatable assembly dimensions.

UNS R50400

Titanium Grade 2

Low mass, corrosion resistance and commercially pure titanium formability.

Connection priority
Tension through the grip and load transfer into the housing
Commercially pure titanium
Grade 2 favours corrosion resistance and forming characteristics over the higher strength of Grade 5. Mating-metal contact, surface condition and assembly friction remain part of the connection design. Include liquid retained at the body-end thread inside the tapped housing in the exposure description.

Inconel 718

Precipitation-hardened strength for compact, highly loaded connections.

Connection priority
Tension through the grip and load transfer into the housing
Strength after aging
Machine-stock properties and final aged properties describe different states. The final heat-treatment lot and mechanical results establish the strength available in the installed part. At the body-end thread inside the tapped housing, the relevant metal temperature can differ from the process or furnace set point.

Questions about Titanium Grade 5 double-end studs

Can both ends use the same thread designation?

They can, but the body end may require a different fit or engagement from the nut end. Record each end separately, including a different pitch or interference requirement where the equipment drawing uses one.
