Titanium Grade 5 Heavy Hex Nuts
ASME B18.2.2ASTM B348
Titanium Grade 5 heavy hex nuts bring Ti-6Al-4V strength to lightweight marine and machinery stud assemblies. Their larger body provides a substantial seating face and wrenching surface with less mass than a steel nut of the same dimensions.

What we can make in Titanium Grade 5
Regular hex
Use on equipment covers and mounting brackets with standard socket access. The compact wrenching envelope is useful where adjacent fasteners or housing walls restrict tool clearance.
Heavy hex
Use on flange-bolting sets and pressure-equipment joints calling for a heavy-hex pattern. The wider bearing footprint and larger wrench size require more seat area and socket clearance than a regular hex nut.
Thin hex
Use in restricted axial spaces or as part of a specified two-nut locking arrangement. Reduced thread engagement means a thin nut is not a direct load-capacity replacement for a full-height nut.

Manufacturing route
Small lots use machined blanks. Volume nut blanks use a forming route compatible with the alloy before machining the bore and tapping.
Heat treatment & final condition
Forming and thermal processing require contamination control. The final surface is cleaned before dimensional and material acceptance.
Finished geometry
Internal thread gauging, usable engagement and bearing-face alignment are checked after final processing.
Where Titanium Grade 5 fits — and what matters

Marine valve bonnets
Titanium Grade 5 Heavy Hex NutsA titanium bonnet stud set needs nuts that carry the stud load and can be removed during valve maintenance. Grade 5 heavy hex nuts provide a larger socket engagement surface without the mass of an equivalent steel nut. Their bearing face must fit the bonnet seat or washer, and a suitable thread lubricant limits galling.
Connection requirements
- Stud load and nut proof load
- Bonnet spotface and nut footprint
- Thread lubricant and mating grade

Deck winches & topside equipment
Titanium Grade 5 Heavy Hex NutsHeavy hex nuts can be useful on lightweight deck-equipment mounts where installers need a substantial tool interface. Grade 5 reduces the nut mass and resists marine exposure. The larger bearing face needs a fully supported washer or plate seat, especially when the mounting plate is aluminium or has a slotted hole.
Connection requirements
- Plate material and isolation
- Nut seat and washer dimensions
- Installation tool envelope

Precision rotary tables & spindle mounts
Titanium Grade 5 Heavy Hex NutsLarge nuts on rotating tooling fixtures contribute to both mass and balance. Grade 5 heavy hex nuts offer a lighter wrenching body for a stud-mounted fixture plate. Consistent nut dimensions and mass aid balance control, while the proof-load requirement establishes their ability to carry the chosen stud preload.
Connection requirements
- Rotating assembly balance
- Stud preload and nut proof load
- Bearing-face and thread dimensions

Titanium Grade 5 material dataInconel 625 Heavy Hex Nuts
Inconel 625 heavy hex nuts suit substantial seawater and wet-chloride stud connections. Localized-corrosion resistance matters beneath the seating face and inside the loaded threads. The broad pattern fits robust pump spotfaces and subsea connections with sufficient clearance for the installation tooling.
Inconel 718 Heavy Hex Nuts
High-load turbine casing and hot-valve studs transfer their tension through the nut into the cover. Inconel 718 heavy hex nuts combine precipitation-hardened strength with the bearing area of a heavy pattern. Broad flats provide substantial socket engagement on these loaded, serviceable connections.
Super Duplex 2507 Heavy Hex Nuts
2507 heavy hex nuts suit loaded seawater and brine stud connections that call for super duplex corrosion resistance. Their larger wrenching body assists controlled tightening and maintenance. The nut must carry the selected stud tension through its threads and bearing face, so proof-load acceptance and seat dimensions are part of the set specification.

Questions about Titanium Grade 5 hex nuts
Does a matching UNS make the stud and nut a matched set?
Matching chemistry addresses only one part of the order. Nut strength, effective engagement, internal thread fit and surface friction must also suit the stud and assembly tightening method.
