Duplex 2205 Stud Bolts

ASME B18.31.2 · DIN 976-1ASTM A276 / A479 — bar

Duplex 2205 studs suit pump casings, valve bonnets and exchanger covers in compatible chloride-bearing service. Their combination of strength and corrosion resistance is useful in loaded closures that must be opened repeatedly, with separate end lengths available for tapped-body arrangements.

What we can make in Duplex 2205

Forms & dimension guide

Fully threaded

Two nuts clamp the flange or cover; usable thread length spans the assembled grip.

Double-end

A plain centre spans the grip, with a threaded portion at each end for the nuts.

tap endnut end

Tap-end

One end engages a tapped casing; the exposed end accepts the cover nut.

Manufacturing
Cut bar, CNC-finish ends and any grip features; roll or cut the specified threads. Studs do not require a headed-bolt upsetting operation.
Final condition
Solution annealing and rapid cooling preserve the required duplex structure.

Where Duplex 2205 fits — and what matters

Disassembled split-case pump with an exposed impeller and shaft, removed casing cover and flanged ports on a workshop bench.

Split-case & multistage pump casings

Duplex 2205 Stud Bolts

On a split-case pump, 2205 studs can carry the cover load in compatible brackish- or process-water service. Double-end forms let the casing-side engagement remain undisturbed during overhaul. Setting that engagement separately from the nut-end length gives the heavy cover the intended fastening arrangement on reassembly.

Connection requirements
  • Pumped liquid and metal temperature
  • Tapped-body engagement or through-stud form
  • Cover and nut stack

High-pressure valve bonnets

Duplex 2205 Stud Bolts

Valve bonnet studs carry a sustained closure load while remaining exposed to leaks and washdown. 2205 provides useful strength and resistance to chloride stress-corrosion cracking in compatible service. The nut-end thread needs sufficient length for the bonnet, washer and full nut engagement throughout the installed arrangement.

Connection requirements
  • Valve pressure and bonnet load
  • Fluid chemistry and temperature
  • Nut-side projection and thread class

Plate & shell heat-exchanger covers

Duplex 2205 Stud Bolts

A heat-exchanger cover may see brackish cooling water on one side and a different process fluid on the other. 2205 studs are useful where the external bolt exposure is compatible with duplex steel. Cover thickness, gasket compression and two nut heights determine the stud length needed for reliable reassembly.

Connection requirements
  • Cooling and process-side leakage chemistry
  • Cover stack and gasket allowance
  • Stud condition and nut pairing
Offshore & Marine

Duplex 2205 material data

Super Duplex 2507 Stud Bolts

2507 studs are useful on seawater pump covers and high-pressure desalination connections where corrosion resistance and strength are both priorities. The stud arrangement keeps nuts accessible and helps locate removable covers. Compared with 2205 studs, they address more demanding chloride exposure; the final heat-treated condition is central to that performance.

254 SMO Stud Bolts

254 SMO studs retain seawater-pump and bleach-plant covers exposed to chloride-bearing residues. The six-moly austenitic alloy offers improved localized-corrosion resistance over 316. Removable nuts permit servicing, while defined housing engagement and nut-end projection suit double-end cover studs.

Inconel 625 Stud Bolts

Offshore flanges and marine valve bonnets put the stud threads, nut seats and exposed shank in different pockets of chloride exposure. Inconel 625 studs bring pitting and crevice-corrosion resistance to that loaded connection. On tapped-stud bonnets, crews can remove the nuts and cover while leaving the studs installed in the valve body.

Questions about Duplex 2205 stud bolts & threaded rods

S31803 or S32205 on the stud certificate?

Both designations are associated with 2205, but they have different composition limits. The order and certificate should identify the specified UNS; dual certification requires the heat to satisfy both.
