Duplex 2205 Heavy Hex Nuts
ASME B18.2.2ASTM A276
Duplex 2205 heavy hex nuts complete loaded stud connections on pumps, valves and process covers exposed to compatible chloride-bearing media. The larger hex supports tool engagement; the nut’s proof-load requirement and thread fit must match the stud it receives.

What we can make in Duplex 2205
Regular hex
Use on equipment covers and mounting brackets with standard socket access. The compact wrenching envelope is useful where adjacent fasteners or housing walls restrict tool clearance.
Heavy hex
Use on flange-bolting sets and pressure-equipment joints calling for a heavy-hex pattern. The wider bearing footprint and larger wrench size require more seat area and socket clearance than a regular hex nut.
Thin hex
Use in restricted axial spaces or as part of a specified two-nut locking arrangement. Reduced thread engagement means a thin nut is not a direct load-capacity replacement for a full-height nut.

Manufacturing route
Small lots use machined blanks. Volume nut blanks use a forming route compatible with the alloy before machining the bore and tapping.
Heat treatment & final condition
Solution treatment and cooling control the duplex structure. Subsequent processing must preserve the ordered corrosion and mechanical condition.
Finished geometry
Internal thread gauging, usable engagement and bearing-face alignment are checked after final processing.
Where Duplex 2205 fits — and what matters

High-pressure valve bonnets
Duplex 2205 Heavy Hex NutsA bonnet nut carries the stud tension through its engaged threads and into the cover seat. Duplex 2205 heavy hex nuts are useful when this loaded connection also sees compatible chloride exposure. The specified proof load and thread class establish the pairing with the stud, while socket clearance determines whether the heavy hex fits.
Connection requirements
- Stud strength and nut proof load
- Thread designation and fit
- Bonnet socket clearance

Split-case & multistage pump casings
Duplex 2205 Heavy Hex NutsPump casing nuts are frequently removed during internal inspections. A 2205 heavy hex nut gives the tool a substantial grip while providing duplex corrosion resistance in suitable process-water service. The bearing face should sit fully on the casing spotface or washer rather than overhang a casting edge.
Connection requirements
- Nut footprint and casing spotface
- Process-water chemistry
- Stud projection and nut height

Black-liquor evaporators & concentrators
Duplex 2205 Heavy Hex NutsDuplex 2205 heavy hex nuts secure evaporator access-cover studs in compatible black-liquor and cleaning exposure. Duplex strength supports the loaded threads, and the heavy pattern provides substantial wrench engagement at overhaul. Thread finish and a suitable assembly lubricant help manage galling during repeated tightening.
Connection requirements
- Process deposits and wash chemistry
- Thread finish and assembly lubricant
- Nut proof load and operating temperature

Duplex 2205 material dataSuper Duplex 2507 Heavy Hex Nuts
2507 heavy hex nuts suit loaded seawater and brine stud connections that call for super duplex corrosion resistance. Their larger wrenching body assists controlled tightening and maintenance. The nut must carry the selected stud tension through its threads and bearing face, so proof-load acceptance and seat dimensions are part of the set specification.
254 SMO Heavy Hex Nuts
254 SMO heavy hex nuts suit chloride-process stud joints that need a highly alloyed austenitic component at the loaded threads and seat. Their substantial flats are useful during pump and exchanger overhaul. Nut capacity is specified for the mating stud, with the selected dimensions providing the required engagement and bearing area.
Inconel 625 Heavy Hex Nuts
Inconel 625 heavy hex nuts suit substantial seawater and wet-chloride stud connections. Localized-corrosion resistance matters beneath the seating face and inside the loaded threads. The broad pattern fits robust pump spotfaces and subsea connections with sufficient clearance for the installation tooling.

Questions about Duplex 2205 hex nuts
Does a matching UNS make the stud and nut a matched set?
Matching chemistry addresses only one part of the order. Nut strength, effective engagement, internal thread fit and surface friction must also suit the stud and assembly tightening method.
