Wellhead & Christmas tree flanges
Alloy 718 double-end stud sets provide high-strength clamping for wellhead and Christmas tree flanges. For sour duty, the stud and nut conditions, hardness and service envelope must meet the equipment specification; hardness alone does not prevent sulfide stress cracking.
Alloy 718 double-end studsRelated material guides
Connection requirements
- Flange pressure class, bore and facing
- Stud diameter, length and thread form
- Nut hardness certificate to API 6ACRA

High-temp refinery & coker flanges
Inconel 600 studs provide fixed mounting points on hot refinery accessory covers and selected flanges exposed to oxidizing or carburizing conditions. Nuts can be removed to open the connection without withdrawing body-mounted studs. Specify the required load at operating temperature: this solid-solution alloy is chosen for heat resistance, with strength assessed for the particular joint.

Connection requirements
- Flange thickness, gasket type, and required preload
- Stud diameter, overall length, and nut engagement at each end
- Temperature range, cycling duty, and heat-number certification

Sour-gas manifolds & valves
On sour-gas valve and manifold flanges, 718 studs can supply high strength within a fixed bolting envelope. The sour-service material condition is central to that choice: the heat treatment and hardness must match the applicable requirements. A generic high-strength 718 condition is not automatically the condition used for this service.

Connection requirements
- Manifold flange rating, gasket type, and required preload
- Stud diameter, overall length, and nut engagement at each end
- Sour-service condition, hardness control, and heat-number certification

Subsea & topside piping joints
Offshore flange studs are exposed where seawater, spray and deposits reach the nut faces and projecting threads. Inconel 625 brings chloride pitting and crevice-corrosion resistance to those loaded fastening surfaces. The stud-and-nut arrangement also lets crews replace nuts and service the flange without a bolt head occupying one side.

Connection requirements
- Piping flange rating, gasket type, and required preload
- Stud diameter, overall length, and nut engagement at each end
- Seawater exposure, access constraints, and heat-number certification

Heat-exchanger & reactor covers
On hot exchanger and reactor covers, X-750 hex bolts carry tensile load in a precipitation-hardened nickel alloy. Their heat treatment is selected for the joint temperature and duration of loading. Accessible external heads suit cover connections where the complete bolt is removed at shutdown.

- Bolt diameter, grip length, and nut/washer stack-up at installed position
- Temperature range, cycling duty, and heat-number certification

LNG & cryogenic valve bonnets
L7 stud sets anchor LNG valve bonnets where low temperature demands toughness without brittle fracture risk. Verify low-temperature impact qualification for the bonnet joint before shipment.
ASTM L7 cryogenic studsConnection requirements
- Minimum design temperature
- Low-temperature impact test certificate
- Bonnet flange dimensions and thread form
Sour gas, pressure and thermal cycling.
Alloy 718 and Incoloy 925 are options for specified sour-service manifolds. Selection depends on the required strength, alloy condition, hardness and the full service envelope under the applicable project specification. Where B7M does not meet those requirements, the replacement grade must be qualified for the connection; 718 is not an automatic substitute.
What to specify
- H2S partial pressure
- Service temperature
- Hardness limit and certificate

A-286 and aged 718 studs offer hot-strength options for refinery and coker flanges. Compare their relaxation data with B7/B16 at the actual bolt temperature and dwell time to select the required clamping capacity.
What to specify
- Design temperature
- Hold time at temperature
- Required residual preload

2507 stud sets combine strength with chloride resistance; 625 and C-276 provide nickel-alloy options for more aggressive flange exposure. Brine temperature, pH and liquid trapped beneath nuts determine which corrosion data match the joint.
What to specify
- Chloride concentration
- Maximum temperature
- Crevice and gasket geometry

Get a Quote03SOUR-SERVICE COMPARISON718 vs 925: what changes in sour-service bolting?
Compare the required strength and sour-service qualification together, using the same connection drawing and service envelope.
Make the comparison specific
718 is an age-hardenable high-strength nickel alloy. 925 combines age-hardened strength with resistance to sulfide stress cracking in sour production environments. A meaningful comparison names the required condition of each grade, the finished strength and hardness, and the project qualification requirements.
Define the fluid at the fastener
Identify whether the fastener contacts the production fluid or is external to the pressure boundary. For wetted bolting, include H₂S partial pressure, pH, temperature, chloride content and any elemental sulfur identified by the project. Attach the applicable NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 edition and the equipment specification.
Compare equivalent supply packages
Use the same diameter, thread, length and quantity for both options. Include the matching nuts, final heat-treatment records, required mechanical tests and packing by connection tag. BYBOLT can review the specified routes and quote the parts and inspection together; any proposed material substitution is identified explicitly for project approval.

04BOM & TRACEABILITY625 Stud Sets for Offshore Process Flanges: Exposure, Fit and Traceability
625 stud-and-nut sets combine corrosion-resistant bolting with a serviceable flange connection. Separate external salt exposure from process-wetted threads before defining the package.
Locate the exposure and the connection
Salt spray outside the flange and production fluid at a wetted thread are different duties. Identify the fluid, temperature and any H₂S exposure at the fastener, then start with the flange or equipment tag and drawing revision. List stud diameter, overall length, thread pitch or TPI, thread class, nut pattern and quantity per connection. Add washers only where the drawing calls for them, with their material, bore and thickness.
Define the components individually
State the grade and final condition for studs, nuts and washers. Add required coating, lubricant, mechanical tests and inspection documents to the relevant lines. This gives purchasing a complete package to compare and gives the site team an identifiable set of mating components.
Link the package to its records
Same-grade components can be supplied from one raw-material heat. Finished heat treatment may run in separate batches; link each batch to its inspection results and component identification. Request packing by flange tag or BOM line so receiving staff can check quantities and records together. Upload your schedule and BYBOLT will review the list for quotation.
