Titanium Grade 5 Stud, nut & washer sets

ASME B18.31.2ASTM B348

Titanium Grade 5 stud, nut and washer sets carry the connection from tensile member to bearing surface. Higher strength than commercially pure titanium at low density must be matched by suitable nut engagement and washer bearing strength.

Heat Treatment

Annealed

Annealing reduces working stresses and restores ductility, with atmosphere and surface control limiting contamination during heating.

What we can make in Titanium Grade 5

Threaded stud in bolting set

Stud

Include both washers when calculating the clamped stack and usable stud projection. Their thickness can change the stud length needed to engage both nuts.

Two nuts in bolting set

Nuts

Pair the nut grade, proof load and thread fit with the stud for the intended clamp load. Heavy-hex nuts also need enough radial clearance for the installation socket.

Washers inside the nuts of a stud assembly

Washers

Use washers to provide the specified bearing footprint or replaceable seating surface. Bore clearance must accommodate the stud, while thickness must support the opening beneath the washer.

Manufacturing route

Studs, nuts and washers are manufactured and inspected as separate components before the specified quantities are packed as a set.

Heat treatment & final condition

Forming and thermal processing require contamination control. The final surface is cleaned before dimensional and material acceptance.

Finished geometry

Thread engagement, nut pattern and component grades are checked together. Each component retains its heat or batch identity in the set documentation.

Where Titanium Grade 5 fits — and what matters

Industrial Machinery & Automation

Machine housings and service covers

Titanium Grade 5 stud, nut & washer sets bring the studs, mating nuts and specified bearing washers together for machine housings and service covers. The washer stack is included in the required usable stud length. Alignment, operating cycles and replacement access define the working interface.

Pumps, Valves & OEM

Pump casings and valve bonnets

Titanium Grade 5 stud, nut & washer sets bring the studs, mating nuts and specified bearing washers together for pump casings and valve bonnets. The washer stack is included in the required usable stud length. Repeated maintenance makes fit, engagement and access part of the component specification.

Automotive & EV Manufacturing Equipment

Test-equipment housings

Titanium Grade 5 stud, nut & washer sets bring the studs, mating nuts and specified bearing washers together for test-equipment housings. The washer stack is included in the required usable stud length. Repeated tooling changes require consistent seating and repeatable assembly dimensions.

UNS R50400

Titanium Grade 2

Low mass, corrosion resistance and commercially pure titanium formability.

Connection priority
Stud tension, nut engagement and washer bearing
Commercially pure titanium
Grade 2 favours corrosion resistance and forming characteristics over the higher strength of Grade 5. Mating-metal contact, surface condition and assembly friction remain part of the connection design. Include liquid retained at the stud–nut threads and both washer-bearing interfaces in the exposure description.

Inconel 718

Precipitation-hardened strength for compact, highly loaded connections.

Connection priority
Stud tension, nut engagement and washer bearing
Strength after aging
Machine-stock properties and final aged properties describe different states. The final heat-treatment lot and mechanical results establish the strength available in the installed part. At the stud–nut threads and both washer-bearing interfaces, the relevant metal temperature can differ from the process or furnace set point.

Questions about Titanium Grade 5 stud, nut & washer sets

Can all components be accepted from the stud certificate?

Each component has its own job and material lot. The nut needs thread and strength acceptance, and the washer needs bearing geometry and the ordered condition; retain those records with the stud’s documentation.
