Titanium Grade 5 Eye-end / swing bolts

DIN 444ASTM B348

Titanium Grade 5 swing bolts combine a pivoting cover clamp with higher strength than commercially pure titanium at low density. Eye-to-pin fit and the nut-bearing arrangement define the closed connection and its maintenance travel.

Heat Treatment

Annealed

Annealing reduces working stresses and restores ductility, with atmosphere and surface control limiting contamination during heating.

What we can make in Titanium Grade 5

Swing bolt pivot eye and pin

Pivot eye

Use on hinged clamps and access covers that open frequently. The eye stays on a pivot pin so the bolt swings clear of the cover slot without removing the complete fastener.

Swing bolt threaded end through clamp slot

Threaded clamp

The threaded leg sets the clamp opening and tightening travel. On a slotted cover, the nut or clamping handle needs a bearing face wide enough to bridge the slot.

Swing bolt pivots on a cross-pin

Swing bolt vs lifting eye

Use a swing bolt to retain and tighten a cover; specify a rated lifting component for hoisting. The pivot eye dimensions alone do not establish an allowable lifting load.

Manufacturing route

CNC machining provides the initial route for special heads and small lots. Formed production requires alloy-specific temperature and surface-contamination control.

Heat treatment & final condition

Forming and thermal processing require contamination control. The final surface is cleaned before dimensional and material acceptance.

Finished geometry

Head geometry, bearing face, shank and thread fit are checked after the final machining and thermal operations.

Where Titanium Grade 5 fits — and what matters

Industrial Machinery & Automation

Machine housings and service covers

Titanium Grade 5 eye-end / swing bolts pivot into and out of the closures on machine housings and service covers, allowing the clamp to release without removing the bolt from its hinge pin. Alignment, operating cycles and replacement access define the working interface.

Pumps, Valves & OEM

Pump casings and valve bonnets

Titanium Grade 5 eye-end / swing bolts pivot into and out of the closures on pump casings and valve bonnets, allowing the clamp to release without removing the bolt from its hinge pin. Repeated maintenance makes fit, engagement and access part of the component specification.

Automotive & EV Manufacturing Equipment

Test-equipment housings

Titanium Grade 5 eye-end / swing bolts pivot into and out of the closures on test-equipment housings, allowing the clamp to release without removing the bolt from its hinge pin. Repeated tooling changes require consistent seating and repeatable assembly dimensions.

UNS R50400

Titanium Grade 2

Low mass, corrosion resistance and commercially pure titanium formability.

Connection priority
Pivot contact and tension during cover clamping
Commercially pure titanium
Grade 2 favours corrosion resistance and forming characteristics over the higher strength of Grade 5. Mating-metal contact, surface condition and assembly friction remain part of the connection design. Include liquid retained at the eye bore around its pivot and the nut-bearing seat in the exposure description.

Inconel 718

Precipitation-hardened strength for compact, highly loaded connections.

Connection priority
Pivot contact and tension during cover clamping
Strength after aging
Machine-stock properties and final aged properties describe different states. The final heat-treatment lot and mechanical results establish the strength available in the installed part. At the eye bore around its pivot and the nut-bearing seat, the relevant metal temperature can differ from the process or furnace set point.

Questions about Titanium Grade 5 eye-end / swing bolts

Is this the same as a rated lifting eye bolt?

This page covers swing-bolt cover and clamp connections. A lifting device needs a separately defined design, load rating and certification; DIN 444 geometry alone does not provide those.
