Duplex 2205 Double-end studs

ASME B18.31.2ASTM A276

A Duplex 2205 double-end stud leaves the installed end in the equipment body while the service nut is removed. Its duplex strength and chloride-corrosion resistance must cover the trapped body-end interface as well as the exposed end.

Solution annealed and rapidly cooled

Solution annealing followed by rapid cooling controls harmful precipitates and preserves the ferrite–austenite structure.

What we can make in Duplex 2205

Clamping stud: two threaded ends with a plain shank

Clamping stud

Use for through-bolted covers and housings with access to both nuts. The plain grip spans the joint; independently sized threaded ends accommodate unequal nut-side clearances.

Tap-end stud: unequal threaded ends

Tap-end stud

Use on valve bonnets and machine housings opened repeatedly for maintenance. The insertion end remains in the body while the outer nut is removed, reducing repeated wear of the housing thread.

Manufacturing route

CNC machining suits samples and special end forms. Repeat lots use cut-to-length stock with rolling or cutting selected for the ordered thread and material condition.

Heat treatment & final condition

Solution treatment and cooling control the duplex structure. Subsequent processing must preserve the ordered corrosion and mechanical condition.

Finished geometry

End lengths, runout and effective thread engagement are checked separately from overall length; tap ends are gauged to their own fit requirement.

Where Duplex 2205 fits — and what matters

Ship machinery compartment with green pumps, insulated pipes and pressure gauges

Offshore & Marine

Seawater pump and cooling-system covers

Duplex 2205 double-end studs connect seawater pump and cooling-system covers through a threaded body end and an accessible nut end. The plain shank spans the cover grip. The assembled contact is exposed to saltwater, deposits and neighbouring metals.

Water Treatment & Desalination

Filter housings and treatment-pump covers

Duplex 2205 double-end studs connect filter housings and treatment-pump covers through a threaded body end and an accessible nut end. The plain shank spans the cover grip. The water stream, cleaning cycle and retained liquid define exposure at the installed part.

Oil & Gas

Process valves and equipment closures

Duplex 2205 double-end studs connect process valves and equipment closures through a threaded body end and an accessible nut end. The plain shank spans the cover grip. Utility connections and pressure-boundary parts have separate acceptance requirements on the equipment drawing.

Duplex 2205 material data
UNS N06625

Inconel 625

Solid-solution strength and resistance to aggressive process liquids.

Connection priority
Tension through the grip and load transfer into the housing
Annealed or solution-annealed 625
The delivery condition affects strength and high-temperature response. Keep the specified condition with the component’s mechanical acceptance; 718-style aging is not the strengthening route for 625. Include liquid retained at the body-end thread inside the tapped housing in the exposure description.
Inconel 625 double-end studs
UNS S32750

Super Duplex 2507

Super-duplex strength and resistance to chloride pitting.

Connection priority
Tension through the grip and load transfer into the housing
Final duplex structure
S32750 chemistry and final solution treatment belong together. Forming, section size and cooling affect the structure represented by the mechanical and corrosion records. Include liquid retained at the body-end thread inside the tapped housing in the exposure description.

UNS N05500

Monel K-500

Age-hardened strength in the nickel–copper alloy family.

Connection priority
Tension through the grip and load transfer into the housing
Strength and hydrogen exposure
K-500 gains strength through aging. Cathodic protection, hydrogen exposure and the ordered condition need joint consideration in highly loaded marine components. Include liquid retained at the body-end thread inside the tapped housing in the exposure description.

Questions about Duplex 2205 double-end studs

Can both ends use the same thread designation?

They can, but the body end may require a different fit or engagement from the nut end. Record each end separately, including a different pitch or interference requirement where the equipment drawing uses one.
