Monel K-500 Set screws
ISO 4026 / ISO 4027ASTM B865
Monel K-500 set screws put age-hardened strength in the nickel–copper alloy family at a small, highly loaded shaft contact. Point style and the final hardness determine whether that contact locates, clamps or indents the mating part.

Heat Treatment
Annealed or age hardenedAnnealing provides a workable starting condition, while controlled aging develops the higher strength specified for age-hardened K-500.
What we can make in Monel K-500
Flat point
Use for repeated adjustment against a flat or pad where deep penetration is unwanted. A prepared flat on the shaft gives more stable seating than contact on a round surface.
Cone point
Use for positive location in a prepared dimple on a shaft or collar. The concentrated tip contact can mark the component, making it less suitable for frequent repositioning on a finished shaft.
Dog point
Use the cylindrical tip in a hole or guide slot to locate a collar or restrict travel. Control tip diameter and projection to avoid binding or bottoming in the mating feature.
Cup point
Use on shaft collars and hubs where the cup edge can bite into the shaft to resist slip. Expect a contact mark; use a prepared seat when repeated removal and repositioning matter.

Manufacturing route
CNC machining suits small lots and special points. The socket and flat, cup, cone or dog point are produced as functional features on the same axis.
Heat treatment & final condition
Solution treatment and the specified aging condition are recorded against the production lot; final dimensions are checked after thermal processing.
Finished geometry
Point hardness and final thread fit are checked in the ordered heat-treated state; a higher point hardness must remain compatible with the shaft.
Where K-500 fits — and what matters

Offshore & Marine
Marine pump shafts and linkage pinsMonel K-500 set screws lock collars or hubs to marine pump shafts and linkage pins. Cup, cone, flat and dog points transfer load through different shaft contacts or locating features. The assembled contact is exposed to saltwater, deposits and neighbouring metals.

Water Treatment & Desalination
Treatment-pump shafts and actuator partsMonel K-500 set screws lock collars or hubs to treatment-pump shafts and actuator parts. Cup, cone, flat and dog points transfer load through different shaft contacts or locating features. The water stream, cleaning cycle and retained liquid define exposure at the installed part.

Oil & Gas
Valve actuator shafts and linkage pinsMonel K-500 set screws lock collars or hubs to valve actuator shafts and linkage pins. Cup, cone, flat and dog points transfer load through different shaft contacts or locating features. Utility connections and pressure-boundary parts have separate acceptance requirements on the equipment drawing.
Same set screw. Different material priorities.
Monel K-500 material dataInconel 625
Solid-solution strength and resistance to aggressive process liquids.
- Connection priority
- Local contact pressure at the point
- Annealed or solution-annealed 625
- The delivery condition affects strength and high-temperature response. Keep the specified condition with the component’s mechanical acceptance; 718-style aging is not the strengthening route for 625. Include liquid retained at the point against the shaft and the blind drive recess in the exposure description.
Super Duplex 2507
Super-duplex strength and resistance to chloride pitting.
- Connection priority
- Local contact pressure at the point
- Final duplex structure
- S32750 chemistry and final solution treatment belong together. Forming, section size and cooling affect the structure represented by the mechanical and corrosion records. Include liquid retained at the point against the shaft and the blind drive recess in the exposure description.
Duplex 2205
Duplex strength and chloride-corrosion resistance.
- Connection priority
- Local contact pressure at the point
- S31803 or S32205
- The specified UNS fixes the chemistry. Solution treatment, section size and the ordered mechanical or corrosion tests establish the final duplex condition. Include liquid retained at the point against the shaft and the blind drive recess in the exposure description.

Questions about K-500 set screws
Should point hardness always be maximised?
A very hard point can damage a softer shaft, while a soft point can flatten on a hard surface. The point geometry, shaft hardness and required holding or locating function determine the useful combination.
