Finished boltDrawing-defined acceptanceNo grade-specific finished-bolt specification was established in the reviewed sources.

Set final mechanical acceptance and any elevated-temperature / sustained-load tests independently of oxidation resistance.

The reviewed F2281 list includes 310 / S31000. That does not automatically qualify 310S / S31008.

Raw material specificationASTM A276/A276M / ASTM A479/A479MUNS S31008

S31008 · stainless bar

Specify the exact grade, stock condition and product form. Bar acceptance must be distinguished from plate or tube data.

Dimensions · metricISO 4014 / ISO 4017Coarse pitch · partial-thread bolts / full-thread hex screws

Select head width s, height k and thread length b. These are dimensional references here; other alloys do not automatically conform to the full steel/stainless product standard. Fine-pitch geometry needs a separate drawing or applicable standard.

Dimensions · inchASME B18.2.1Inch hex bolts / hex cap screws

Select the bolt or cap-screw pattern, head dimensions and thread length. Hex and heavy hex are different choices.

Threads · metricISO 261 / ISO 965-1Metric M · pitch plan and tolerance system

State diameter × pitch and external tolerance class, e.g. M12 × 1.75–6g. Fine pitch must be written explicitly; 6g is a thread tolerance, not a strength grade.

Threads · UNC / UNFASME B1.1Unified inch · coarse / fine series

State diameter, TPI, series and external class: e.g. 1/2-13 UNC-2A or 1/2-20 UNF-2A. Select 2A / 3A with the mating-thread fit; UNC and UNF do not mate.

Mechanical testing ASTM F606/F606M

Mechanical test methods for fasteners; select applicable tensile, yield and hardness tests. This standard supplies methods, not a material grade or pass/fail limits. Define those limits and sampling in the part specification.

Before production and at delivery

During quotation, a redacted certificate from a previous order can show the document format and recorded tests. It is a historical example, not certification of this product or a new order. Shipment documents must correspond to the material and batch actually supplied.

Thermal atmosphere

Gas chemistry, temperature cycle and exposure duration.

Gives a defined basis for oxidation and thermal-service review.

Load acceptance

Required properties at the specified test temperature and duration.

Keeps scaling resistance separate from allowable joint loading.

Product-form reference

S31008; A276/A276M or A479/A479M bar, plus defined finished-bolt tests and limits.

Prevents tube or plate references becoming the bolt specification.

Technical help

Can I use the F2281 Type 310 entry for 310S bolts?

The reviewed Type 310 entry identifies S31000, while 310S is S31008. Confirm the exact grade coverage before using that bolting route. The verified 310S bar routes are A276/A276M and A479/A479M.

What hot-service information belongs on a 310S bolt enquiry?

Include gas chemistry, temperature cycles and load duration, together with the final condition and required test properties. Specify any elevated-temperature acceptance explicitly so oxidation behaviour and joint loading are reviewed on their own terms.

Read a thread designation Metric / UNC / UNF

M12 × 1.75–6g12 mm diameter · 1.75 mm pitch · external class 6g

1/2-13 UNC-2A1/2 inch · 13 TPI · coarse · external class 2A

1/2-20 UNF-2A1/2 inch · 20 TPI · fine · external class 2A

Examples explain designations, not available sizes. Specify fine pitch explicitly. UNC and UNF do not mate; full or partial threading is a separate choice.
