Finished boltASTM F468 — inch / ASTM F468M — metricInconel 625 · N06625 · select the unit-specific specification

Confirm final mechanical acceptance and the required melt route. The reviewed F468M sample requires ESR or VAR for 625; verify that requirement against the ordered edition. F468M scope is M6–M36; this is a standard boundary, not a stock range.

Do not assume B446 bar alone qualifies a bolt to F468/F468M. Inch and metric editions must be checked independently, including processing requirements.

Raw material specificationASTM B446UNS N06625

N06625 · rod and bar

Specify the B446 material grade and annealed or solution-treated condition. Keep starting-stock requirements separate from the finished part.

Dimensions · metricISO 4014 / ISO 4017Coarse pitch · partial-thread bolts / full-thread hex screws

Select head width s, height k and thread length b. These are dimensional references here; other alloys do not automatically conform to the full steel/stainless product standard. Fine-pitch geometry needs a separate drawing or applicable standard.

Dimensions · inchASME B18.2.1Inch hex bolts / hex cap screws

Select the bolt or cap-screw pattern, head dimensions and thread length. Hex and heavy hex are different choices.

Threads · metricISO 261 / ISO 965-1Metric M · pitch plan and tolerance system

State diameter × pitch and external tolerance class, e.g. M12 × 1.75–6g. Fine pitch must be written explicitly; 6g is a thread tolerance, not a strength grade.

Threads · UNC / UNFASME B1.1Unified inch · coarse / fine series

State diameter, TPI, series and external class: e.g. 1/2-13 UNC-2A or 1/2-20 UNF-2A. Select 2A / 3A with the mating-thread fit; UNC and UNF do not mate.

Environment

Medium, concentration, operating temperature, continuous / intermittent exposure and relevant cleaning conditions.

Focuses corrosion review on the actual joint, including crevices and mating materials.

Condition & specification

UNS N06625, starting-material specification and condition, governing finished-bolt specification and edition, and final acceptance requirements.

Connects the raw material certificate to the properties required after manufacture.

Assembly & inspection

Mating nut or tapped-hole grade, thread class, finish / lubricant and required test records.

Thread fit, assembly practice and inspection scope need agreement alongside the alloy.

Example enquiry — adapt to your drawing

Please quote Inconel 625 hex bolts, UNS N06625, to drawing [number/revision], or diameter [value/unit] × under-head length [value/unit], quantity [pieces per size]. Thread: [designation/class]; coverage: [full/partial]; for partial threading, threaded length [value/unit]. Required material condition: [condition or drawing reference]. Service medium, concentration and temperature: [details]. Exposure pattern and relevant cleaning conditions: [details]. Please identify the proposed finished-bolt specification and inspection documents in the quotation.

Replace the brackets with your requirements, or send your drawing instead. If a condition or specification is undecided, flag it for review. This is an enquiry example; dimensions, availability, price and acceptance requirements are confirmed in the quotation and purchase documents.

Technical help

Should my 625 bolt order cite B446, F468 or F468M?

A B446 certificate covers starting-stock requirements; it does not by itself establish finished-bolt conformity. F468 is an inch finished-fastener route and F468M is the metric route within its scope. State the governing edition and required final properties. For a metric order, confirm any required electroslag remelting (ESR) or vacuum arc remelting (VAR) against the specified F468M edition.

Which 625 material condition belongs on the enquiry?

State the B446 grade and annealed or solution-treated condition required by the drawing or design. Add the final bolt properties and any specified corrosion test. If the condition is undecided, send the dimensions, quantity and service details for review before quotation.

Can 625 replace 718 because both are Inconel alloys?

A substitution needs a review of the corrosion exposure, required strength, temperature and condition. 625 is solid-solution strengthened; 718 is age hardenable. Matching the trade-name family or bolt dimensions does not establish equivalent joint performance. Use the 625 vs 718 guide below to prepare that comparison.

Can I request these bolts without a drawing?

Yes. Start with diameter, under-head length, thread designation and quantity per size. Add full or partial threading, the threaded length for a partial thread, and the required material condition. Include the service details listed above; identify any missing requirements for review before order confirmation.

M12 × 1.75–6g12 mm diameter · 1.75 mm pitch · external class 6g

1/2-13 UNC-2A1/2 inch · 13 TPI · coarse · external class 2A

1/2-20 UNF-2A1/2 inch · 20 TPI · fine · external class 2A

Examples explain designations, not available sizes. Specify fine pitch explicitly. UNC and UNF do not mate; full or partial threading is a separate choice.

Start with the corrosion exposure

625 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy strengthened by solid solution. For chemical or marine service, give the medium, concentration, temperature and exposure pattern. A general corrosion-resistance description cannot establish suitability for the particular joint.

How to specify Inconel 625 fasteners ↗

State the condition, not only “625”

Annealed and solution-treated material are different ordering conditions. Select the condition with the applicable material specification and finished-bolt requirements. ASTM B446 addresses rod and bar; it does not define every requirement for a finished hex bolt.
