How to Specify Alloy Round Bar, Plate, Wire and Strip

Define the material form, dimensions, delivery condition and documentation for a useful raw-material quotation.

Updated 2026-09-11

Round Bar

Specify grade and UNS, diameter, length, tolerances, quantity or weight, and delivery condition. Add cutting, surface and testing requirements where applicable.

Plate and Sheet

Specify thickness, width, length, quantity, condition, flatness and surface. Include any cutting or edge requirements. Do not assume one thickness boundary applies to every standard.

Wire

Specify diameter, condition, coil or straight-length form, quantity and intended processing use. General alloy wire should not be assumed to comply with welding-wire or spring-wire standards.

Strip

Specify thickness, width, coil or length requirements, quantity, temper, edge and surface conditions. State dimensional tolerances and intended processing steps.

Documents and Delivery

Add the governing material specification, inspection documents, destination and desired date. Availability is confirmed for the exact form and condition; freight is paid by the customer.
